Travelling with a physical impairment

The RET wants everyone to be able to travel by tram, bus or metro. This includes the visually impaired and people who are dependent on a wheelchair or who walk with the aid of a rollator.

In order to make the metro stations accessible to all, all Rotterdam stations are equipped with wheelchair ramps, lifts and escalators.

Busses and RET trams, all offer low boarding platforms for easy access. This makes it easier for people with impaired mobility to get on and off. 

A number of bus and tram stops even offer level-floor boarding to buses and trams in the form of an extendible platform in the vehicle or a raised platform. Unfortunately, level-floor boarding is not possible at all stops. The municipalities within the transport area of ​​the RET are making more and more stations accessible to people with a physical impairment. Therefore, check whether your local stop is accessible to you, prior to starting your trip.

The bus routes, tram lines and stops are wheelchair accessible if you can see a wheelchair sticker at the stop.

Unfortunately, mobility scooters cannot go on the bus.

 If you cannot walk well, you can use a seat that offers more space.

• In the tram, two seats are reserved behind the driver.
• In the bus, these seats are located near the front. You can recognize them by the sticker.

Some metro stations have toilets for the disabled persons or toilets that are wheelchair-accessible.
